Tips to Plan meals and Keep your Kitchen Organized Throughout the Lockdown

Updated: May 4, 2020

In the current circumstances millions of people are spending more time at home than ever before. But this shouldn’t discourage you as now is the perfect time to enjoy family meals together, building wholesome dishes from a well-stocked pantry, and gain kitchen confidence through regular hands-on practice. We’ve rounded up some useful tips to help you plan means and keep your kitchen organized.

Prepare for more Varied Meals

Now is a great time to try new recipes and perfect them. Go online and find recipes that look yummy to help you come up with ideas. Try stepping outside your comfort zone with dishes you usually wouldn’t cook. This is a great time to learn something new, and grow your cooking skills. Also try finding meals that would be good for lunches while at work; because when this is all over prepping your lunches will be a good way to be healthy and save money!

Add convenience items to change things up

Cooking doesn’t always have to mean from scratch, and there are a lot of items that will make cooking easier for you and save you time. Having items like curry paste, bouillon, frozen puff pastry and/or pie dough in your pantry will help you cook more foods, while also still making it easy. Not only that but pre-made ingredients tend to be cheaper, and you won’t have to spend all day in the kitchen to make a delicious homemade meal!

Make the Kitchen Fun

Making cooking less of a chore and more of a fun activity can help the whole family enjoy it. Put music on, create family style meals, or make a colorful sheet pan dinners, the ideas are endless. Use your kids to help with the non-cutting prep like breaking down heads of produce into florets, or peeling vegetables. Another fun kitchen activity is growing herbs, watching the process of growth and having fresh herbs on hand is a win win for everybody.

Keep the Kitchen on a Timeline

Being home all day means there may be constant snacking, and boredom eating. So to help with this maintain a schedule for mealtime, and keep healthy snacks stocked up. Raising you and your families consciousness about what they are eating will help everyone be more healthy. Also putting all edibles away right after dinner, cleaning up, and turning off the lights will help control after dinner snacking!

We hope these tips will give you some inspiration to get cooking, and implement healthy habits in your life on lockdown.
